Not because of the ID of the hose, but because of the ID of the fittings. I've seen some -6 fittings with an ID as small as 3/16". I run 1/2" aluminum line and -8 hose / fittings on mine. I had problems with 3/8" and -6 fittings when using a Carter 172 mechanical pump.
